Multi-awarded cop linked to drugs killed in Tagbilaran buy-bust

A multi-awarded policeman suspected to be a high-level drug pusher and protector was killed in a buy-bust operation on Wednesday morning in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, police said.

Senior Police Officer 1 Adonis Dumpit was about to allegedly deliver illegal drugs when he was killed in an alleged shootout with joint operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation in Bohol and Tagbilaran City Police Station around 8:20 a.m. in Purok 1, Dagohoy Road, San Isidro District.

Dumpit was assigned at the Bohol Police Provincial Office. He was the former close-in aide of Cebu City Mayor Tomas "Tommy" Osmeña.

The sharpshooter policeman has spent six years in jail after he was convicted of homicide by the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City for killing a 17-year-old suspected robber.

He was released from the Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte in May 2016 after he was allowed to post bail of P250,000 pending the resolution of his appeal.

In a Facebook post, Osmeña refused from making any further statement due to "conflicting stories."

"The police said that it was a buy-bust and Adonis shot first. The NBI said it was not a buy-bust. Until the facts become clearer, I will withhold from making any statement other than that either way I am sad to hear about what happened," he said.

Osmeña said Dumpit was "assigned to Bohol to quietly live out the rest of his duty" as he was supposed to retire in a year. —KG/RSJ, GMA News
