5 wedding guests killed in Sarangani road accident

Five people died while 37 were injured when the truck they were riding met an accident in Malungon, Sarangani, according to the report of Emil Sumangil for Saksi.

The passengers were on their way to attend a wedding in Maasim on Saturday.

The driver of the hauler truck, which carried 50 passengers, lost control of the vehicle after the brake failed to work.

As a result, the truck fell on its side.

The incident occurred in Sitio Buayan, Barangay Malandag in Malungon town, Sarangani late Friday morning.

The truck, which is from Kiblawan, Davao del Sur was also transporting sugar cane.

"Na-release ang brake, bigla lang natumba ang truck, nasa 50 kami. Kasal ng anak ko bukas nadisgrasya kami," said Perras Siarot.

What would have been a happy gathering of friends and family members for the scheduled wedding, the families of the victims will have to make funeral arrangements.

Meanwhile, 37 passengers were brought to the hospital to undergo treatment for injuries they sustained from the accident. — BAP, GMA News
