Dagupan, Calasiao, other areas in Pangasinan still flooded
Although the monsoon rains have stopped, residents in Pangasinan had no choice but cope with the floodwaters that have yet to recede, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday by Athena Imperial.
Parts of Dagupan City were still flooded, forcing residents to use kuliglig, trucks, and other big vehicles to get around.
Others used boats or waded through floodwaters on foot.
Many establishments were closed due to the flooding.
In Lingayen, meanwhile, low-lying areas such as Barangays Libsong East, Libsong West, Aplaya, Pangpisan North, and Maniboc were also flooded.
Some residents sought shelter in a day care center.
Fishponds overflowed and some residents caught fish for their meals.
In Mangatarem, one person reportedly drowned and died. However, this is still being verified, Avenix Arenas, deputy provincial disaster risk reduction and management officer, said.
Meanwhile, in Calasiao, the floodwaters reached knee level.
More than 1,400 families were brought to evacuation centers, but there were still others who refused to leave their homes, Arenas said.
"Ang pakiusap natin sa ating mga kababayan, sumunod sila sa mga advice ng mga awtoridad dahil sila ang nakakaalam para sa kaligtasan ng bawat residente rito sa Pangasinan," she said.
The floods, however, did not deter a couple from pushing through with their wedding. —KG, GMA News
