Parasitic worms swarm out of Pampanga kitchen sink

Footage of worms squirming out of a kitchen sink in San Fernando, Pampanga went viral on social media, GMA 7 news program "24 Oras Weekend" reported on Saturday.

The San Fernando City Health Office looked into the incident at the Apostol family home and concluded that "poor sanitation" gave the threadworms the opportunity to breed inside the family's drain pipe.

"Hindi naman ito kadelikado, pero ito po ay pwedeng ma-transmit through skin opening, pwedeng pumasok sa system ng tao," sanitation inspector Nee Pangilinan warned.

"'Pag gano'n po karumi, posibleng pamamahayan sila ng gano'ng klase ng (parasite)," Pangilinan  added.

Although the incident was an "isolated" case, water district PrimeWater-City of San Fernando replaced the Apostol family's drain pipe.

"Pinaka-importante po talaga dito 'yung tamang sanitasyon, personal hygeine, at tamang kalinisan sa bahay," Pangilinan emphasized. — Margaret Claire Layug/DVM, GMA News
