Town councilor in Eastern Samar shot dead —police

A town councilor in Eastern Samar was killed in a gun attack shortly after midnight on Friday, police said Saturday.

Authorities identified the victim as Mercedes town Councilor Antonio Arbis, 45, who was shot to his death by still unidentified gun man at about 12:04 a.m. Saturday.

An initial police investigation showed that a lone gun man shot Arbis in the head while watching an event on the eve of the fiesta of Barangay Sung-an of Mercedes town.

Coming from behind, the gun man shot the victim pointblank and fled.

Arbis was rushed to a hospital in Guiuan town but was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities are investigating the motive for the attack and the identity of the attacker. — Ronnie C. Roa/LBG, GMA News
