Residents near Agno River warned vs. flashfloods, landslides
PAGASA on Friday warned residents living near Agno River and its allied rivers to be on alert against flashfloods and landslides as these waterways may overflow due to the rains brought by Typhoon Ompong.
In an advisory, PAGASA said the waterways that are likely to be affected include:
- Ambayaoan River,
- Viray-Depalo River,
- Banila and Totonogen Rivers,
- Tarlac, Camiling, Bayaoas Rivers and Streams;
- Pantal-Sinocalan River and Tributaries (Tuboy, Ingalena, Tagamusing Rivers and Streams)
- Cayanga River and Tributaries (Bued-Patalan, Angalacan and Aloraget Rivers and Streams)
"People living near mountain slopes, low-lying areas, particularly areas with poor drainage systems, coastal or high tide-affected areas, adjacent to or along the above-mentioned waterways... are advised to be on alert," PAGASA said.
As of Friday morning, water levels of rivers within the basin were still below alert level, PAGASA noted.
"However, light to moderate to at time heavy rain to be brought by Typhoon Ompong is expected to prevail over the basin this weekend," it added.
PAGASA said the rains may result in "slow to gradual" rise of water. —KBK, GMA News
