50-year-old survives Cebu landslide; 9 people rescued so far

Nine people have been rescued from the landslide-hit area in Naga City, Cebu as of Friday afternoon.

The latest was a 50-year-old man identified as Nito Gepuit who was rescued at Sitio Tagaytay in Barangay Tinaan around 5 p.m., according to an update from Sandra Aguinaldo on GMA News TV's Quick Response Team.

The old man was found alive a day after the landslide buried several homes on Thursday.

Rescuers also rescued a 12-year-old girl at around midnight, but she was the only one in her family to survive the slide.

Twenty-nine bodies have been retrieved from the site as of the report. 

Rescue operations were temporarily halted due to the rainy weather but the Cebu PDRRMO said they are still determined to continue looking for survivors. — Margaret Claire Layug/RSJ, GMA News
