30k people from Angono expected to visit dead relatives fittingly on All Souls’ Day
While most Filipinos spend November 1 or All Saints' Day in cemeteries to visit their dead relatives, the people of Angono strictly observe the holiday by paying the visit on November 2, All Souls' Day.
In a report by GMA News' Cedric Castillo on Balita Pilipinas on Friday, Angono Police's Public Information Officer Bernard Laca revealed that at least 30,000 people are expected to troop to three cemeteries in Rizal province, resulting in traffic jams.
A mother, identified as Richelle de Jesus, did not want to be sandwiched by the large crowds so she visited the tomb of her baby Angel in Angono Municipal Cemetery and at dawn.
"Babalik rin po [kasi] kami [agad] ng Maynila,” De Jesus said.
Buddies Jaime and Eusebio, on the other hand, visited their dead relatives at St. Clement Catholic Cemetery on Friday despite the huge crowd because All Souls' Day should be commemorated on the correct date.
"Ang November 2 ang araw ng mga kaluluwa. All Souls' Day. Ang November 1, All Saints' Day. Araw ng mga Santo. Kaya kami, 'dun sa tama, kasi 'yun rin ang kinagisnan namin,” Eusebio said.
Among the prominent personalities buried in St. Clement Catholic Cemetery include National Artist for Music Lucio San Pedro and National Artist for Visual Arts Carlos "Botong" Francisco.
Angono police head, Superintendent Glenn Magsino, for his part, advised motorists to take alternate routes, especially those coming from Pasig. — Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA News
