Six people massacred in Cagayan province —police

Five members of a family and a farmer were found dead in Cagayan province last Saturday, all bearing hack wounds, local police said Sunday.

Citing information from investigator PO3 Christopher Duque, GMA News reported the incident took place in Barangay Ipil of Gonzaga, Cagayan.

Five of the victims were members of the Oandasan family and their bodies were found outside their house.

The body of the sixth fatality was found in a corn field some 100 meters from the house of the Oandasans.

Doque said a 7th victim, now being observed in a hospital, is a 3-year-old member of the family. The fatalities are identified as:

  • Dizon Oandasan Sr. 42, a farmer and the father of the family,
  • Sany Oandasan, 47, mother,
  • Wilson Oandasan, 13,
  • Karen Oandasan, 12,
  • Dizon Oandasan Jr., 5, and
  • Juanito Soliva, 53, a farmer and a resident of Barangay Palaui Island of Sta Ana town, who was in the Oandasan household for a vacation.

All the victims bore hack wounds in the nape, police said, adding that the massacre possibly  happened on the evening of December 14.

An initial police investigation showed that the incident was discovered by Renante Sevilla, the step son of victim Dizon Sr.,  at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, when he went to the Oandasans' house to feed his piglets.

Police investigators suspect that land dispute could be a motive for the massacre.

Gozaga police are investigating the incident to identify the suspects and to determine the motive for the crime. —LBG, GMA News
