Bacoor subdivision blast kills 2, damages 6 houses
At least two people died after an explosion of still unknown origin Thursday ripped houses at a subdivision in Bacoor town in Cavite, the provincial police reported. Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, chief of the Cavite provincial police, told dzBB radio that six residences were damaged following the explosion in Anthurium Street, Phase V in the Sorrento Homes subdivision. The blast emanated from one house which was initially reported to have "collapsed" at about 4:15 p.m. No fire was reported before or after the explosion. Posadas said a man and a woman were among the fatalities. "It was a very powerful explosion. We thought it was a big area. The initial reports we got was that the explosion disrupted traffic in the area, but we have not received reports of casualties," he said in Filipino on dzBB radio. He added that, "All our available units are there, personnel from the explosives and ordnance division are also in the area." A dzRH correspondent quoted local residents as saying chunks of concrete, metal sheets and shards of glass flew immediately after the explosion. Media crews rushed to the site but police and security personnel cordoned off the area. - GMANews.TV
