Christmas morning fire guts Antipolo City warehouse

A fire that broke out in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City early Tuesday, Christmas Day, gutted a warehouse which shoe-making materials were stored, GMA News' James Agustin reported.

The fire broke out at around 1 a.m., reached the Third Alarm, and was put out at 3:25 a.m.

Firemen had difficulty putting out the fire since the fire quickly spread.

They also had to put on breathing apparatus due to the thick smoke.

Since rubber sheets were in the warehouse, the firemen also had to use a triple F chemical to put out the fire.

"Medyo mahirap kasi kapag nasusunog 'yung rubber, nakita niyo 'yung usok talagang makapal kaya gumamit tayo ng breathing apparatus," said Fire Chief Inspector Orlando Antonio, fire marshal of Antipolo City.

"'Yung mga volunteer at saka 'yung BFP [Bureau of Fire Protection] gumamit kami ng foam. 'Yun ginamit natin dito sa mga rubber," he added.

The BFP said the rubber sheets in the warehouse were used in making soles for shoes.

No one was inside the warehouse at the time of the fire. No one was injured.

"Ayon du'n sa guwardiya mismo nitong company, in between daw nitong nasunog na gusali 'yung may nakita nagsimula 'yung apoy. Pero iniimbestigahan pa natin kung ano 'yung naging dahilan," Antonio said.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and have yet to estimate the value of damage. —DVM/KG, GMA News
