Napolcom strips Mayor Garin of authority over cops in Guimbal

The National Police Commission has stripped Guimbal, Iloilo Mayor Oscar Garin Sr. of his authority over members of the Philippine National Police in his town.

According to a report on "24 Oras", the provincial director of Iloilo or the regional director of Western Visayas shall be in charge of giving orders and in overseeing the functions of the PNP in Guimbal.

Garin and his son Iloilo Representative Richard Garin are facing criminal and administrative raps after they allegedly disarmed and manhandled a policeman on December 26.

According to the congressman, he was frustrated that the policeman PO3 Federico Macaya would ask a victim to withdraw his complaint against a suspect who allegedly hurt him during the Disyembre sa Guimbal event on December 22.

Richard Garin has apologized to the PNP organization but PNP Western Visayas regional director Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao said the complaints against the politicians would continue.

The Garin father and son have yet to comment on the mayor losing his authority over the police in his town.

On Friday, they turned over 14 high-powered weapons to the authorities.

Two other guns have yet to be submitted reportedly because they were in Manila.

Under Section 39 of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation law, a firearms license or permit “may be revoked, canceled, or suspended on the grounds of a commission of a crime or offense involving firearms.”

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde earlier ordered the pullout of the police escorts of the Garins as a result of the incident. —NB, GMA News
