21 dead due to landslides in Bicol —PHL Coast Guard
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Monday said at least 21 people were killed due to landslide in the Bicol region brought about by Tropical Depression Usman during the weekend.
PCG spokesperson Captain Armand Balilo reported that of the 21 fatalities, 11 were recovered in Tiwi, Albay, while the cadavers of 10 others were retrieved in Nato, Camarines Sur, as of December 30.
On the other hand, the PCG personnel were able to rescue 2,230 people from landslides and flooding in Tiwi, Albay; Nato, Nabua, Iriga Camarines Sur and Vinzon, Camarines Norte.
Rescue operations are still ongoing in Baao and Buhi, Camarines Sur and other affected areas, Balilo said.
A total of 63 PCG personnel in Bicol with eight aluminum boats, two rubber boats and three vehicles were deployed to conduct search and rescue operations in the affected areas. —Llanesca Panti/KBK, GMA News
