Barangay officials claim they did not expect the bikini pageant to turn into a lewd show
The warning of the emcee that the bikini open competition at Barangay Maligaya in Tarlac City was "SPG" or for "strong parental guidance," proved to be a portent of unseemly things to come.
As the contestants appeared on stage strutting their swimwear, several of them went an extra mile and took off their upper garment. One girl even approached the table of the judges and briefly gyrated, to the shock of the audience that included minors, according to a report on GMA's "24 Oras."
The incident, which was caught on video by netizens has put the barangay officials in hot water, who were being asked to explain.
The barangay officials claimed they did not know the bikini pageant would turn into a lewd show.
Footage of the lewd display had gone viral on social media and drew flak from netizens and concerned parents.
Kaya di kami tumuloy," Miguel Aquino told GMA News.
The bikini pageant was part of Barangay Maligaya's fiesta celebration.
The barangay council clarified that they hired an organizer to facilitate the event, admitting they did not anticipate such a situation.
The event was flagged by the Tarlac City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The CSWDO plans to discuss the matter with the event organizer and officials of the barangay, as well the Department of Interior and Local Government. —Margaret Claire Layug/ LDF, GMA News
