Cainta fire claims 2 lives, renders 800 families homeless

Two residents of Barangay Sto. Domingo in Cainta, Rizal lost their lives in a fire incident that happened on Sunday night.

According to a report by Darlene Cay on GMA News TV's News To Go on Monday, an 81-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man could have been trapped inside their house that was consumed by the flame.

The fire lasted for five hours, reaching Task Force Alpha or the sixth highest fire alarm, and rendered 800 families homeless.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire spread easily because the houses were made of light materials.

The roads leading to the burning residential area were also narrow and entry became challenging for the fire trucks.

A total of 42 fire trucks responded to the area.

The cost of damage was pegged at P6 million and the local government mulls on the possibility of declaring a state of calamity in the affected barangay.

Four evacuation centers were serving as temporary shelters for the fire victims. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
