Lawyer opposes possible transfer of Daraga mayor to Camp Crame hospital

The lawyer of suspended Daraga, Albay mayor Carlwyn Baldo on Monday bared plans by the local police to transfer his client at the Philippine National Police (PNP) hospital in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

Lawyer Lewinsky Fernandez, in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, said they would oppose the move.

Baldo, primary suspect in the killing of Ako Bicol party-list Representative Rodel Batocabe, is currently confined at the UST-Legazpi Hospital since January 23 after suffering from hyperventilation in his detention cell.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in the Bicol Region has filed against Baldo cases of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and illegal possession of an explosive before the Albay Provincial Prosecution Office.

Fernandez said he visited Baldo Monday to update him on the hearing on their motion for bail.

"While were inside, we were informed na nasa labas si Major Paguia,
pag alis ko bumalik si Major and informed him na ililipat sya sa PNP Hospital.  Kung dischargeable na ay ililipat siya sa Legazpi jail," Fernandez said.

"We objected kasi hindi nila mapipilit kung saang ospital iko-confine, at kung sino ang titingin, it violates his constitutional right," he added.

The lawyer said Baldo still has to undergo several tests at the hospital.

He asserted they would continue to press the courts to allow him to file bail for his temporary liberty and to dismiss the cases against him, saying his client was innocent.  END
