BFP personnel, retired cop killed in Quezon vehicular accident
Three people died on the spot when a passenger bus crashed into an Asian Utility Vehicle along Maharlika Highway in Lopez town, Quezon province on Friday, according to a report on GMA News' Saksi.
They were identified as Fire Officer 3 Ronaldo Alcala and Fire Officer 2 Cleto Nataño, both of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Tagkawayan, Quezon, and retired Senior Police Officer 4 Juanito Untiveros.
Their companion, Fire Officer 3 Rhoderick Odi, is still in critical condition at a hospital in Naga City.
The accident occurred past 10 p.m. in Barangay Pansol.
Police investigation showed that the P&O Transport Corp. passenger bus overtook a vehicle on the curved portion of the highway before colliding with the AUV coming from the opposite direction.
After the colission, the bus also crashed into a house along the highway.
No one was hurt in the house.
The driver and some passengers, meanwhile, only had minor injuries.
It took more than an hour for rescuers to retrieve the bodies of the fatalities inside the AUV which was totally damaged.
The three victims died of head wounds.

Lopez town police said the BFP officers went to Camp Vicente Lim to submit requirements needed for their promotion.
Untiveros, on the other hand, went with them to have his pension benefit processed.
The driver, identified as Julio Mayores, is now in police custody.
Mayores said he was avoiding something when he crashed into the AUV.
He also said he was only driving at 60 kph.
Mayores apologized to the relatives of the fatalities and asked for their forgiveness.
He will face charges of multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property. —With a report from Peewee Bacuño/BAP/KG, GMA News
