Suspect in killing of businessman Dominic Sytin nabbed
Police have arrested the suspect in last year's killing of businessman and philanthropist Dominic Sytin, according to Mark Makalalad's report on Dobol B sa News TV on Monday.
Citing Police Brigadier General Amador Corpuz, commander of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the report identified the suspect as Edgardo Luib.
A warrant of arrest for murder was served on Luib in his home in Batangas last March 5 following a tip from an informant.
In a press conference, Philippine National Police chief Police General Oscar Albayalde said the murder of Sytin was apparently caused by rivalry among siblings and carried out through a gun-for-hire contract with a hitman.
Albayalde also said firearms were also seized from Luib during his March 5 arrest which include: caliber 30 carbine, caliber 45 pistol, caliber 40 pistol and a sachet of dried marijuana.
"Forensic examination of the caliber 45 Norinco pistol seized from Luib established a match with two caliber 45 bullets and nine fired cartridge cases recovered from the crime scene at SBMA," Albayalde said.
"Luib’s fingerprint standard also matched the latent prints lifted from the side mirror of the getaway Yamaha Mio motorcycle used in the shooting," he added.
Albayalde also said Luib has executed an extra-judicial confession."
"In the presence of his family and counsel, Edgardo Luib executed an extra-judicial confession detailing his alleged participation and that of his co-conspirators in the murder of Dominic Lim Sytin,” Albayalde said.
Sytin was shot dead last November in front of a hotel inside the Subic Freeport Zone in Olongapo City. His security aide was wounded in the incident.
The slain businessman was the founder and CEO of United Auctioneers Incorporated and part owner of ACEA Subic Bay Resort.
