UP Cebu professor conferred Bernd Rode Award


A professor and vice chancellor of the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu has been conferred the prestigious Bernd Rode Award.

According to the school's website on Thursday, Dr. Weena Gera received the 2019 Bernd Rode Award in the Senior Researchers category for her research collaboration entitled “Examining the coherence of legal frameworks for ecosystem services toward sustainable mineral development in the ASEAN."

The honor, named after Austrian researcher Bernd Michael Rode who founded the Austrian-Southeast Asian Academic University Network, is granted to outstanding scientific and higher education collaboration between European and South-East Asian universities in the framework of ASEAN European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET). 

Gera was among other laureates announced during the 17th ASEA-UNINET plenary meeting held in Vietnam last month. 

She is currently Assistant Professor of Political Science at the College of Social Sciences and OIC Vice Chancellor for Administration of UP Cebu.   

She was also a recipient of the 2018 Gro Brundtland Award for outstanding research work in the field of sustainable development; the 2016-2018 One UP Faculty Grant Award in Political Science for Outstanding Research and Public Service; as well as the university's 2016 Gawad Dekana Plaque of Recognition for Outstanding Performance and Achievement of a Faculty – “Outstanding Achievement in Research.” — BAP, GMA News
