Water level in Lake Lanao hits critical level

The water level in Lake Lanao, which plays a crucial role in electricity generation in Mindanao, is below its critical level amid the dry season.

Marisol Abdurahman's report in GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho on Wednesday cited data from the Lanao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) shows that the water level in the lake has dropped to 697 meters—already below the critical level of 699 meters.

The water from Lake Lanao is being utilized in the geothermal plants in Mindanao.

The power supply in the region may possibly be affected should the lake's water level continue to dwindle.

The PDRRMO is closely monitoring the situation given that the dry season has just started and lack of sufficient rain is expected as an effect of the weak El Niño. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
