2 suspected NPAs killed in Masbate clash

Two suspected New People's Army rebels were killed Monday in an encounter with government security forces in Mandaon, Masbate.

According to the military, the incident happened 1:55 a.m. in Barangay Puri as members of the Masbate Police and 2nd Infantry Battallion conducted an operation in the area.

Around seven Red fighters were supposedly involved and two of them died in the firefight that lasted for only five minutes.

Their cadavers were turned over to the local police for proper disposition and authorities have yet to establish their identities.

Recovered from the site were one M16 rifle and one .45 caliber pistol.

The government troops are still investigating the activities of the communist rebels in the area. — Dona Magsino/RSJ, GMA News
