Mulanay, Quezon mayor charged with graft over generator purchase

Mayor Joselito Ojeda of Mulanay, Quezon has been charged with graft at the Sandiganbayan over the purchase of a generator set worth P500,000 in 2013.

Ojeda was indicted on one count of violating Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, according to the charge sheet filed by Graft and Investigation and Prosecution Officer IV Julie Mercurio on March 29.

Bids and Awards Committee chairman Delio de Leon, and BAC members Marissa Cortez, Noel Eroa, and Marina Palillo were also named as accused in the case.

Ojeda and his co-accused supposedly acted with "evident bad faith, manifest partiality or gross inexcusable negligence" when they purchased one generator set from Alta Maxpower Corporation (AMC).

The Office of the Ombudsman, however, said AMC was ineligible to supply the local government a generator set in terms of the technical component of the contract.

A P90,000 bail bond has been recommended for each accused in the case.

The charge approved by Ombudsman Samuel Martires on January 25 has been raffled to the Third Division. — BM, GMA News
