DPWH temporarily opens Kennon Road for Holy Week tourists
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has temporarily opened Kennon Road for those who wish to go to Baguio City this Holy Week.
According to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday, Kennon Road is only open to light vehicles as it is still under rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, in a separate report by Katrina Son, tourists who flocked to the city are reminded to follow its ordinances on littering, smoking and cursing in public.
Aside from vacation purposes, some tourists visited the City of Pines to be involved in church activities this Lenten season such as the Visita Iglesia.
"Yearly po may iba-ibang lugar kami na binibisita so ngayong taon Baguio kami. Okay naman sa amin kasi mainit sa Manila," tourist Rejie Ilas said.
Data from the city's tourism office showed that 100,000 tourists had visited Baguio City in 2018.
"We're only getting those from accommodation establishments that we have in our list," Aloysius Mapalo, supervising tourism operations officer, said.
Mapalo said the tourism office is expecting that the number of vacations this year would increase.
At present, Baguio City is experiencing light rains which is perfect for those who want to escape Manila City's heat. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
