Work at Catbalogan City Hall suspended after magnitude 6.5 quake

After the magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit Samar, the local government of Catbalogan City suspended work at the city hall on Tuesday to ensure the safety of  personnel and residents.

“Dito po sa LGU (local government unit) ng Catbalogan, sa city hall mismo, nag-suspende ako ng trabaho,” Catbalogan City mayor Archie Fuentes said in his interview on GMA News’ Balita Pilipinas Ngayon on Tuesday.

The earthquake that shook Eastern Samar was also felt in Tacloban City, Catbalogan City, Masbate City, Legazpi City, and Sorsogon City.

Fuentes said five barangays in Catbalogan City reported damages in infrastructures.

One report reached Fuentes that a fire wall collapsed and hit a house in one of the barangays. No one was hurt in the incident.

In Barangay Payao, a senior citizen was reportedly injured after falling debris hit her while she was rushing out of the house.

Cracks were also seen in several concrete posts in Catbalogan City, the mayor said. —Joviland Rita/LDF, GMA News
