Authorities end search, rescue ops at collapsed building in Pampanga

Authorities officially ended on Saturday the search and rescue operations at ground zero of the Chuzon Supermarket building in Porac, Pampanga, five days after last Monday's magnitude 6.1 quake that jolted Central Luzon and nearby provinces.

GMA News' Rida Reyes reported that authorities declared the close of the search and rescue operations after ascertaining no signs of life have been detected under the rubble.

Pampanga Provincial Police personnel showed on Saturday videos of several days of the search and rescue operations, indicating that all possible corners and floors of the collapsed building were searched and cleared.

Authorities said the next focus of Bureau of Fire Protection and Pampanga Police personnel is to clear ground zero of debris.

Earlier, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said the number of missing people  from the collapsed building was down to five.

Meanwhile, the Pampanga Police Office said it will coordinate with local officials of the province in efforts at locating the five people on the list of those missing during the Chuzon Supermarket incident. —LBG, GMA News
