Magnitude 5.4 quake jolts Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte


A magnitude-5.4 earthquake struck Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on Monday, PHIVOLCS said.


In an advisory, PHIVOLCS said the quake hit the area at 10:48 a.m. The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of focus of eight kilometers.

According to PHIVOLCS, Intensity V was felt in Pasuquin, Bacarra and Laoag City as well as in Tuguegarao City.

The other intensities were:

  • Intensity IV - Paoay, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity III - Sinait & Santa, Ilocos Sur; Sudipen, La Union
  • Intensity II - Baguio City

Instrumental Intensities were also recorded:

  • Intensity V - Claveria, Cagayan
  • Intensity IV - Pasuquin & Laoag City, Ilocos Norte
  • Intensity III - Sinait and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

PHIVOLCS also warned against possible aftershocks following the quake.

There is no expected damages, according to PHIVOLCS.

The tremor is the latest of a string of earthquakes to hit the country this month, on the heels of a deadly magnitude-6.1 earthquake that struck Castillejos, Zambales, and a magnitude-6.5 quake in Eastern Samar.
