101-year-old voter casts vote in Marawi City

A 101-year-old lady was among the senior citizens who exercised voting rights in Marawi City on Monday, Election Day.

According to a report by GMA News' Sandra Aguinaldo, Nanay Sakina Saber Sarip, who was accompanied by her children, had no prepared list on who to vote this elections.

Her daughter said Nanay Sakina memorized her favored candidates. Her children also assisted her when she voted.

Aguinaldo reported that senior citizens were given priority in the said precinct.

Meanwhile, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) - Marawi City, all voter registration verification machines (VRVMs) in the area malfunctioned which prompted teachers to manually check the voter's list.

The VRVMs aim to hasten the poll process for the May 2019 elections. With a scan of a fingerprint, VRVMs are programmed to determine whether a voter is listed at a specific polling precinct.

Moreover, two vote counting machines (VCMs) also failed to operate, however, the Comelec said it is ready to replace those machines. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
