5-yr-old boy, 3 others massacred in Davao City

Two women and two children aged 5 and 13 were brutally killed inside their home in Barangay Marilog, Davao City on Tuesday night.

According to a report on GMA News TV's Balita Pilipinas Ngayon, the victims were allegedly stabbed and shot to death by a suspect identified as Rey Alba, a member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU).

The victims were identified as Liza Ponce; her daughters Christine and Ana, 13; and Christine's son Reniel, 5.   

Alba was killed in an alleged shootout with police officers and army personnel in Sitio Lapinig the next day.

The suspect reportedly drew his gun and fired at the authorities in pursuit.

"Na-corner naman siya mga 1:30 p.m. kasama namin ang mga army at pulis. Sa halip na sumuko siya, nagpapaputok pa ito sa amin, kaya wala kaming ibang nagawa kundi gumanti sa kanya," said Police Major Estrillo Ramiso, chief of the Marilog police.

The police are looking at revenge as a possible motive as Alba had earlier been accused of raping a woman related to the victims. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
