'Lando' returns; storm signals raised over Palawan


State weather forecasters on Monday raised storm warning signal over Palawan area as tropical storm 'Lando' (international code name: Hagibis) re-entered the country. In its 11 a.m advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that northern Palawan and the Calamian Group of Islands is now under Signal Number 2. Signal Number 1 was hoisted over the rest of Palawan, Cuyo Island, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro and Lubang Island. As of 10 a.m. Monday, Lando was located 390 kilometers west northwest of Puerto Princesa City. It packed maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. It is moving east northeast at 15 kph. Lando is expected to be 190 km north of Puerto Princesa City by Tuesday morning, over Oriental Mindoro by Wednesday morning and 170 km north northeast of Virac, Catanduanes by Thursday morning. With this, Pagasa warned residents living in low-lying areas and those near mountain slopes located in areas under storm warning signals against possible flashfloods and landslides. They also advised the residents in coastal areas to be alert for big waves or storm surge generated by the tropical cyclone. Meanwhile, Typhoon Signal Number 3 remained hoisted over Cagayan, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Babuyan Group of Islands and Batanes Group of Islands due to typhoon Mina. The provinces of Isabela, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Benguet, La Union and Ilocos Sur are still under Typhoon Signal Number 2. Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac and Pangasinan are under Typhoon Signal Number 1. - GMANews.TV
