Dumaguete police assure residents amid scare from ‘series of stabbings’

Dumaguete City Police chief Lieutenant Colonel Gregorio Galsim on Tuesday assured residents that the police are "on top of the situation" amid the series of drive-by stabbings in the city last weekend.

In an interview, Galsim said they have intensified patrols in the entire city and asked Dumagueteños to remain vigilant.

At the same time, he urged netizens not to share unverified information on the stabbings as it may cause unnecessary panic.

Three stabbing incidents victimizing young men were confirmed by police last Saturday, July 20. The victims were identified as 20-year-old Nico Enumerabellon, 19-year-old Jose Pocholo Tangente, and 21-year-old Adrian Magalso.

Initial police investigation on the Saturday stabbing showed that all three confirmed victims were stabbed by assailants aboard motorcycles at Rizal Boulevard and Escaño Beach. Three unidentified perpetrators, also in motorcycles, approached them stabbed them once each before speeding away.

Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo on Monday met with Galsim and other police officials to discuss the incidents, and assured the public that they are doing their best to keep the city a safe place. —LDF, GMA News
