2 husbands lose wives in Iloilo-Guimaras sea tragedy
Grief took over the relatives of the victims of the sea tragedy in the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait over the weekend when they saw their loved ones' remains.
According to a report by Ian Cruz in GMA's 24 Oras on Monday, survivor Ardie Legarda lost his wife Emily in the raging sea when their boat M/B Jenny Vince capsized. Emily went missing, but her body was later recovered.
Ardie screamed and cried when he saw her lifeless body.
"'Yung anak namin iisa pa lang tapos hindi niya pa alam na ganoon ang nangyari sa mommy niya," Ardie said.
Another passenger, Earl Telis, also became a widower due to the tragedy.
"Clear 'yung weather sa Buenavista. Na-cancel earlier so nag-decide na kami not to go pero natuloy kasi tatlong bangka eh. It just so happened na nakasakay kami sa tumaob," he said. His eyes looked tired.
Three motorboats capsized amid bad weather on Saturday.
According to the Joint Iloilo City-Guimaras Command Post, 28 have died in the incident, six are still missing and 52 were rescued alive.
The Philippine Coast Guard, on the other hand, put the death toll at 31. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
