Passengers at Guimaras port stranded due to bad weather

Scores of passengers remained stranded at a port in Jordan, Guimaras on Wednesday.

According to Ian Cruz on his report for Balitanghali, several boat trips at the pier were canceled due to bad weather.

Authorities say some roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels are set to augment more trips as the port reportedly receives an average of 5,000 to 7,000 passengers a day.

The local government has also expressed concern over their limited food stock, especially after the sea tragedy on Saturday that left at least 31 people dead.

Harsh weather conditions caused boats carrying more than 90 passengers and crew to overturn off the central island of Guimaras and Iloilo provinces.

Palace Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to visit the families of the victims.

As of PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory on Wednesday, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands remained under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 on Wednesday due to monsoon rains and Typhoon Hanna. — Margaret Claire Layug/MDM, GMA News
