Bohol governor issues order banning importation of pork and meat in the province
Bohol Governor Arthur Yap ordered a halt to the importation of pork and meat in the province.
Yap issued the order after some hogs died in Luzon due to a still undetermined illness, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.
The local government of Bohol will also implement a vaccination and deworming activity for hogs.
Three barangays in Rodriguez, Rizal were undergoing quarantine measures after the unusual death of around 100 hogs in the area, its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said on Tuesday.
Rodriguez MDRRMO chief Genaro Inocentes said that local officials are already inspecting small piggeries in barangays San Isidro, San Jose, and Macabud.
Live swines detected of having diseases are immediately culled and disposed of in a landfill.
It was not confirmed yet whether the disease that killed the livestock in the area was African Swine Flu.
Inocentes assured the public that no pork from Rodriguez, Rizal will be made available to the market while the quarantine is in effect.
According to the Department of Agriculture on Monday, blood samples from hogs have been sent abroad for testing of various animal diseases as increased mortality has been recorded in several areas.
