Jesuit volunteer stabbed to death in Bukidnon; suspect arrested
A Jesuit volunteer was killed inside a cottage in Pangantucan, Bukidnon after being stabbed on the left and right chest, police said on Sunday.
Police Staff Sergeant Alfredo Santiago of Pangantucan Police told GMA News Online that two volunteers from Jesuit Volunteers Philippines identified as Genifer Buckly, 24, a teacher from Zamboanga del Sur; and Kathleen Gatdula, 30, a socio enteprise officer from Quezon City, were attacked inside their cottage on Friday at 2 p.m.
According to Bukidnon Provincial Police, suspect Alrod Naquilla, 36, forcibly entered the cottage of the victims in Kinilayan Village Barangay Poblacion to rob them.
The two victims went back to their home around 2 p.m. and caught Naquilla who was already inside the cottage.
“Nahuli siya doon sa loob. Noong umuwi 'yung mga biktima sa cottage nila, nandoon na sa loob 'yung suspek,” Santiago said.
After stabbing the victims, the suspect immediately fled.
The victims were rushed to Pangantucan Doctor’s Hospital for treatment. Gatdula survived despite the stab wound in her right abdomen, but Buckly was declared dead on arrival.
Survivor Gatdula provided descriptions about the suspect, and a cartographic sketch was produced by police. It matched Naquilla's features.
“Itong suspek natin, involved sa series of robbery incidents dito sa amin, kaso hindi siya nafile-an ng kaso. Ngayon lang siya na-identify,” Santiago said.
Naquilla was arrested in his home Saturday morning, Santiago said. —KG, GMA News
