Fire hits Boracay community
A large fire broke out at a residential area on Boracay Island on Thursday morning, according to a report on Dobol B sa News TV.
The report said the fire hit Sitio Ambulong in Barangay Manoc-Manoc in Boracay's Station 3 in Malay, Aklan and reached General Alarm.
The fire, which started past 9 a.m., has already been declared under control at around 10:30 a.m., according to a report on Balitanghali.
According to YouScooper Jether Gregorio, the fire was located near a mosque.
Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said the cause of fire is still being investigated and they are waiting for the report from the Bureau of Fire (BFP) on the incident.
According to Bautista, firefighters had a hard time to respond to the affected area because of the narrow roads. He added the fire spread because of the strong winds.
With the help of the firefighting units of hotels and resorts in the island, the fire was controlled.
“Maraming tumulong, yung mga hotels and resorts na may firefighting unit, kaya na confine agad yung apoy,” Bautista said in an interview on GMA News TV’s Balitanghali.
At least seven families have already evacuated to a covered court so far, while the local government unit is still gathering all other victims in the evacuation center. — with Joviland Rita/KBK/RSJ, GMA News
