Critically endangered sea turtle rescued in Cavite


A critically endangered sea turtle was rescued after being stranded at the shoreline  in Puerto Azul, Cavite, the Philippine Coast Guard reported on Sunday.

Reports said a concerned citizen informed the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Naic that she found a sea turtle believed to have laid eggs of the shoreline of Dalaroy Beach Resort on Wednesday.

The Coast Guard, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and a Provincial Environmental and Natural Resources Officer (DENR PENRO) responded to the area.

The female sea turtle was 30 to 35 years old, 59 centimeters long, 57 centimeters wide, and weighed 35 kilograms.

DENR categorized the sea turtle as belonging to a critically endangered species.

The responding team released the sea turtle to its natural habitat on the same day, the PCG said. — Joviland Rita/BM, GMA News
