Suspected NPA rebel killed in clash with gov’t troops in Camarines Norte — official

A suspected communist rebel was killed while an Army soldier was wounded following a firefight in Camarines Norte, a regional military spokesperson said Tuesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Cana of the Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command said government forces were able to seize rebel weapons during the clash, even as pursuit operations are ongoing.

Lieutenant Colonel Luzmindo Mamauag, commanding officer of the Army's  96th Infantry Battalion, told GMA News Online that troops from the 2nd  Provincial Mobile Force Company and one platoon of the 96th IB had an encounter with more or less 15 rebels in Barangay Submakin at around 6 a.m. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
