Over 2,000 volunteers sign up for Taal Volcano relief work – DSWD
More than 2,000 people had signed up to volunteer for the Taal Volcano relief operations, the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD's) Region IV-A office said Tuesday.
In a Facebook post, the DSWD IV-A explained that volunteers would be tasked to repackage relief goods that would be distributed to the residents of eruption-affected areas.
“More than 2,000 other individuals have already signed up as volunteers for the repacking of relief goods,” the regional social welfare office added.
The DSWD IV-A also thanked the 250 volunteers who repacked family food packs at its warehouse in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite on Tuesday.
“These food packs are for distribution to the affected families of the #TaalVolcano eruption in Cavite and Batangas provinces,” the DSWD IV-A added.
PHIVOLCS had raised an Alert Level 4 over Taal Volcano due to Sunday's phreatic eruption, with the province of Batangas placed under a state of calamity on Monday.
A total of 35,945 people had been displaced and evacuated to centers in 27 cities and municipalities in Batangas due to the threat from Taal Volcano unrest, said the Office of Civil Defense.
On Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said it was seeing signs of a possible strong eruption at Taal based on the new fissures or cracks found on the ground of 12 barangays in Batangas. — Joviland Rita/DVM, GMA News
