Authorities lock down Batangas town due to Taal Volcano unrest
Talisay, Batangas was placed on lockdown by the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection on Tuesday as it was deemed a high-risk area following Taal Volcano's phreatic eruption.
According to a 24 Oras report by Oscar Oida, police officers and soldiers blocked off the roads motorists and residents were using in an attempt to return to their homes.
The lockdown resulted in heavy traffic which tried the patience of some drivers.
Some locals started handing out bottles of water and bananas to those stuck in traffic in an effort to calm matters.
At around 5 p.m., authorities started a final sweep of the area and urged the remaining holdouts in Talisay to evacuate their homes. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
