Person of interest identified in killing of ex-Batangas Rep. Edgar Mendoza
QUEZON - Authorities investigating the killing of former Batangas Representative Edgar Mendoza, his driver Ruel Ruiz and bodyguard Nicanor Mendoza said on Tuesday they have identified a person of interest in the case.
Police Colonel Audie Madrideo, director of the Quezon Police Provincial Office and chief of the newly formed Special Investigation Task Group Atty. Mendoza, however, did not give more details about the said person of interest.
He added they have yet to identify the possible motive.

Madrideo said they already have a lead based on CCTV footage as to where the suspects brought the three victims before Mendoza's car was found burned in Tiaong, Quezon on Thursday.
The NBI on Friday said riding-in-tandem suspects brought Mendoza's car to a desolated bridge in Tiaong a few moments before it was consumed by fire.
Police found the bodies of the three victims charred in the back seat of the car. The family confirmed that one of the bodies was that of ex-Rep. Mendoza, based on belongings found near the car. The bodies were subjected to DNA testing for confirmation, the results of which are expected to be released within the week.
The Quezon Police Provincial Office on Tuesday formed SITG Atty. Mendoza to look into the possible motive and identify the mastermind of the murder of Mendoza who was also a former commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration and was practicing law at the time of his death.
SITG Atty. Mendoza is composed of representatives from the Quezon and Batangas Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Tiaong Municipal Police Station, Highway Patrol Group, NBI Batangas, NBI Quezon, and the Batangas and Quezon Police Provincial Office.
