Grateful for Pinatubo help, Pampanga volunteers head to Batangas on medical mission

Over 200 volunteers from the provincial government of Pampanga and its private sector are helping provide aid to Batangueños affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.

According to a Wednesday report on GMA News' Balitanghali, the 241 volunteers conducted a medical mission and gave food to affected residents.

Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda said this was an act of thanks for the aid the province received during the 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption.

Pineda has already met with the local officials of Batangas for their coordination.

As of Wednesday, alert level number 4 remains over the Taal Volcano as a hazardous eruption is still possible despite apparently calmer volcanic activity.

Meanwhile, the latest figures from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council showed that individuals displaced due to the eruption have climbed to over 50,000. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
