DPWH-Surigao Norte unveils newly built Siargao Sports Complex gym and dorm
The Department of Public Works and Highways- Surigao del Norte (DPWH-SDN) unveiled the newly completed sports complex gymnasium and two-unit dorm on Siargao Island in a Wednesday morning announcement.
The completion of the two major facilities comes in time for the local government's plans in hosting major sporting events this year, according to the Public Works department.
The P15-million sports complex includes two courts—one for basketball, the other for volleyball or badminton—with rubberized flooring, said DPWH-SDN 1st District Engineering Office district engineer Alex Ramos.
"The entire building is fully air-conditioned with specially designed ventilating system to cool down the more than 3,000 spectators who will sit on the surrounding bleachers," he added.
The P50-million two-unit dorm for athletes will have a dual purpose: as housing for athletes during sporting events, and as high school classroom buildings on regular days.
The new facilities, which were deemed "ready to use" by the DPWH-SDN, are now part of the Siargao Sports Complex.
