At least 7 areas still positive for paralytic shellfish poison —BFAR
At least seven areas in the country are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said.
The Carigara Bay in Leyte and San Pedro Bay in Western Samar are now positive for red tide toxin, based on latest laboratory results conducted by BFAR and local government units, the bureau said in an advisory dated Thursday but released only on Tuesday.
Also, shellfish collected in the following areas remained positive for paralytic shellfish poison beyond the regulatory limit:
- Puerto Princesa Bay, Puerto Princesa City in Palawan;
- Coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol;
- Irong-irong Bay in Western Samar;
- Cancabato Bay, Tacloban City in Leyte; and
- Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur
Due to this, all types of shellfish and ‘alamang’ gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption, BFAR warned. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
