M'lang Airport ready for commercial flights before year ends –governor

KIDAPAWAN CITY —Commercial airlines would soon be using North Cotabato's M'lang Airport in Central Mindanao.

Full operations of the 18-year-old airport project could begin before the year ends, Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco said Thursday.

Catamco and lot owners of the properties to be used for the airport have finally signed deeds of sale, witnessed by Assistant Secretary Jim Melo of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The close to P6 million that has been initially released for lot payments was drawn from the P14 million DoTr allocation for the project,  a report from the office of the governor said.

Assec. Melo expressed hopes that commercial planes would soon start using the airport.

The project started in 2002 during the leadership of then Cotabato Governor and now Mindanao Development Authority (MINDA) Secretary Emmanuel Pinol.   —LBG, GMA News
