Magalong signs EO extending class suspension in Baguio
Mayor Benjamin Magalong has signed an executive order (EO) extending the suspension of classes in all levels in Baguio City until the end of May.
Under EO 78, all levels in public and private schools, as well as other learning institutions and centers in the city, are suspended for a further period until May 31.
"[T]here is an agreement that to maintain the stringent measures being done to protect our city and citizenry, the suspension of classes [...] must be extended further," the resolution read.
According to Magalong, this is subject to guidelines which may be released by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases or the assessment of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Inter-Agency Task Force.
Meanwhile, school officials and administrators were directed to coordinate with concerned government agencies for additional instructions on the guidelines.
Baguio City was recently lauded as a model local government unit for its management of COVID-19 patients.
Magalong previously said the city's COVID-19 cases remained at 14 due to the city government’s sense of urgency and preparedness.
As of Thursday afternoon, there are 4,076 COVID-19 cases nationwide with a total 203 fatalities and 124 recoveries. — RSJ, GMA News
