Nueva Ecija students taking internship stranded in Boracay paradise

Twenty-eight Hotel and Restaurant Management students from Nueva Ecija who went to Boracay for their internship are now stranded on the world-famous island after the government imposed quarantines to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019.

According to a 24 Oras report by JP Soriano on Tuesday, the students were interns for various Boracay resorts that have since ceased operations due to the quarantine.

“Ang nangyari po sa’min ay nag-stay lang po kami sa apartment then ang barangay naman po nagbigay po ng dalawang quarantine pass sa aming 28 na estudyante para po makalabas,” Jayson Calos said.

Their school is covering the costs of their apartment and food.

“Sa dami po kasi namin, hindi po maiiwasan na magsari-sariling gastos din po kami,” Calos added.

The school has vowed to bring them back to their homes as soon as possible.

GMA News has also forwarded the students' concerns to the inter-agency task force leading the government’s COVID-19 response for them to be given a travel pass.

The Department f Social Welfare and Development earlier said it was considering helping the stranded interns, along with more than 100 other workers stuck on the island. -Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
