DOT to arrange sweeper flights to help stranded domestic travelers get home

The Department of Tourism will arrange sweeper flights to help stranded domestic travelers return to their homes amid the enhanced community quarantine.

According to JP Soriano's report for "24 Oras," a total of 1,628 domestic travelers have been stranded in the country as of Tuesday.

DOT secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said she will personally coordinate with local governments to help bring the tourists home.

"Sa mga stranded ngayon sa iba't ibang tourist spots, believe me when I tell you na ako mismo, gusto ko itong ayusin at pag matapos itong extended ECQ," she said.

Puyat said local governments have different ordinances regarding the enforcement of the quarantine to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Some allow the entry of returning domestic travelers, while some do not.

Her son, Vito, is among those currently stranded in Palawan.

She said the DOT's regional offices gave a package to help the stranded tourists with their daily needs. —MGP, GMA News
