Surigao del Norte to continue free phone consultations with doctors after ECQ

The provincial government of Surigao del Norte will continue its program of medical consultations via telephone even after it moves from an enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine on May 1.

In a statement, the provincial goverbment said the Tawag Konsulta Program, which has assisted 287 patients during the ECQ in the province, will be part of the new normal as the country continues to deal with the threat of COVID-19.

"[T]he Provincial Government expects this medical program to be a part of the New Normal in order to reach more needy patients in the province as well as decongest the clinics and hospitals in light of the pandemic," the statement read.

Tawag Konsulta program allowed residents to seek medical advice while staying at home amid the enhanced community quarantine.

Patients call the province's Heals 911 Hotlines and describe their complaints to an agent who will refer them to the appropriate specialist.

The doctor then calls the patient for a thorough consultation over the phone/.

The 24/7 service is given for free for 7 days a week and has assisted 287 patients as of April 28.

The program was organized by the Heals 991, Surigao del Norte Governor Francisco Matugas,, Surigao Del Norte Representative Francisco Jose Matugas, and the Surigao del Norte Medical Society. -Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
