Baby almost delivered in ambulance after 3 hospitals turn away mom

A woman almost gave birth inside an ambulance after three hospitals turned them away amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) scare.

According to Bam Alegre’s Thursday report on 24 Oras, baby Nathan Katigbak was already coming out while his mother Nancy was still inside the ambulance.

Nancy’s husband, Reynaldo, said they were turned away by three hospitals.

“Ang sabi ho sa amin, wala na raw bakante tapos sa kabilang ospital wala rin daw ho bakante tapos sa kabila wala rin pero at least nakahanap kami,” he said.

On their fourth hospital attempt, Nancy was finally able to successfully deliver a healthy baby boy at St. Jude Family Hospital in Los Baños, Laguna.

Reynaldo said his wife’s last trimester was no easy feat amid the enhanced community quarantine.

“‘Di makalabas ‘yong asawa ko. ‘Di mapa-checkup kasi bawal ang buntis eh,” he said.

Meanwhile, amid the COVID-19 crisis in the country, the birth of Nathan gave joy and inspiration to the frontliners in the hospital.

“Excited po lahat kasi parang ‘di na lahat puro COVID, takot ‘yong nararanasan, ‘yong nae-encounter namin dito na parang takot na takot kami. Itong [pagpapaanak] parang ang saya, nabuhay ‘yong baby at ‘yong nanay sa ganitong paraan,” Tes Depano, a nurse at St. Jude Family Hospital, said.

Moreover, Nancy thanked the hospital for taking good care of her and her baby.

“Maraming maraming salamat po dito sa ospital. Diyos na po ang bahala sa inyo,” she said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
