3 Abu Sayyaf gunmen killed in Sulu clash


Three Abu Sayyaf gunmen were killed during an hour-long Saturday morning clash with the Philippine military in Patikul, Sulu.

During the clash, combat troops of the 21st Infantry Battalion blocked and engaged about 20 militants in Sitio Tubig, Paliya, Danag at 10:44 a.m.

Augmenting troops further delivered fire and blocked possible Abu Sayyaf withdrawal routes.

Nevertheless, the gunmen were able to flee, with soldiers in pursuit.

Meanwhile, recovered from the scene were a gunman's cadaver and a high-powered firearm.

Bloodstains were also found in the Abu Sayyaf's position, suggesting that they suffered heavy casualties, according to Joint Task Force Sulu commander Major General Corleto Vinluan Jr.

Five soldiers were also slightly wounded during the fighting, and they were promptly medevaced from the scene. — DVM, GMA News
